I really enjoyed The Skylarks War, because it was realistic and heartfelt. I rated it4 1/2 stars because it was hard to put down because of all of the fun and the sadness of a family member and a friend go out to fight for their country in World War I. It was an amazing choice for this years book awards and I will certainly recommend it! It is definitely one of my favourite books.

Skylarks War is an amazing wartime novel! The description is vivid and the book really makes you feel the heartbreak that the family are going through. The characters feel like they could be your friends! My only negative comment is it is a bit slow to get started.

This book was a lovely read showing the ups and downs of the Penrose and Bonnington families as well as people like Mrs Morgan! It also takes place just before, during and after the war, which Simon and Rupert had to endure. Peter and Clarry’s father is definitely and odd father, showing hardly any compassion.(*spoiler) showing up at the end was a total surprise, even though it was anticipated a few lines before. Still heartwarming though.
