Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll
Emma Carroll is fast developing a reputation as a writer of novels in historical settings. This mystery is set during WWII.
After an air raid in which their sister disappears, Olive Bradshaw and her little brother Cliff are evacuated from London to a quiet seaside town on the Devon coast. ItÆs all very different to noisy metropolitan life in London but with secret messages, lights at sea and a possible spy, life is anything but quiet!
I absolutely this book as it had a twist and is wonderful. Olive is very resilient, trying and trying again. I wanted to just keep reading it was that good.
Amazing storyline about the war. In some parts itÆs very touching how Sukie goes missing. Olive and and Cliff are very brave to be alone with no parents with them. I recommend this to most people who like adventures especially about war
I found this book very interesting, because of the fact that there was two young children being evacuated from their homes and not knowing whether or not their older sister was alive. Also being separated from their Mum and everything they’ve ever known. I also really enjoyed the fact that a Christian and a Jewish girl could find friendship during a war against religion and culture. Which just shows how even in such dark times, religion doesn’t stop people from becoming best friends.
This book is an amazing heartwarming story that is set in World War 2 and is about a girl called Olive who needs to find her missing sister and look after her brother, this is all made much easier when she becomes a refuge and leaves her home. In this new village the mysteries just pile up by the second. Will Olive find her sister? Will Olive uncover all the secrets that everyone is keeping from her.
I really liked this book!I thought the plot/story was really interesting and I was not expecting what happened at the end. I thought Sukies character was unpredictable and Olives very strong and determined. I liked the idea that it was set in world war 2 because it shows what life would have been like when bombs were going of and when peoples family’s where dying in the war. I would recommend this to anyone who likes mystery, adventure and history.
