JessicaÆs Ghostáby Andrew Norris
A ghost story with a difference. Francis has never had a friend like Jessica who makes him feel able to be himself. Jessica has never had a friend like Francis û not only because he makes her laugh but because he is the only person who can see her! With themes of being different and fitting in JessicaÆs Ghost is a funny and moving story which ties in beautifully with the æReading WellÆ initiative in BoltonÆs libraries
I think the build up was very good and engaging but the ending didn’t quite justify the rest of the book. It seamed kind of messy and all over the place, it didn’t have quite as strong an impact as it could have. Otherwise it is something that some children could relate to and describes a flourishing friendship that is nice to read about.
I love this book. Jessica’s Ghost addresses strong issues that some may think too “heavy” for children to read about. But the reality is, children can be affected by the situations shown in the book. Normally, I prefer a light comedy but I think that this book is one everyone needs to read. Mental Health is just as important as physical health and the effects can be just as devastating if we aren’t there for people who need someone. Remember: it always gets better.
I would really recommend this book. It was a great read about friendships and happiness. Although it was not all jolly for Francis, I have labelled it about happiness and friendship. It is about being confident in your own skin, which I believe even the best of us can find difficult at times. The characters are very unique and don’t really fit in.Roland: is obese and is bullied because of it. Andi: not very girly and has no one left to be friends with – because she beat all of the other girls up.I loved it and would give a 10/10

Jessica’s Ghost is a very moving story of friendship and hope.I could not stop reading it as it just pulls you in!The description was brilliant because the images in my head were very clear. I would really recommend this to 7-11+. The book is filled with drama, leaving you on cliff-hangers and showing strong bonds of friendship. It gives you a message of no matter who you are or what you do or love, just to be yourself!
I would rate this book 5/5!!
