Beetle Boyáby M G Leonard
Described as ôa darkly funny Dahl-esque adventureö, this book mixes science, mystery and humour. When scientist and entomologist Dr Bartholomew Cuttle mysteriously disappears from a locked room, his son Darkus is convinced he has been kidnapped. He sets out to find him accompanied by a giant rhinoceros beetle which seems to have taken on some human characteristics. But to add to the mystery, who are the villainous bickering cousins Gamble and Risk who live next door and could they be involved in the kidnapping?
I enjoyed this book but it wasn’t as dramatic as the books I like to read. I think it is very clever and scientific but quite informative and more like a non-fiction book. I loved how it made the idea of mixing human DNA with beetles seem so possible and easy but it was a very easy read and I prefer more complicated stories.
I really loved Beetle Boy because it was very mysterious how Darkus’s dad had disappeared and why Lucretia Cutter had something to do with it. I also liked how everything linked together and made sense once explained.
4 stars
I found this book very interesting because Bartholomew Cutter suddenly disappears, leaving poor Darkus alone in a foster home. When Darkus and his two friends find the villain, it was good to see them all working together.
4 stars
This book is about a relationship between a boy and a beetle. Who doesn’t like beetles? I have given this book 4 stars because it got really confusing. But that doesn’t stop me from saying how incredible it is. This is a book everybody should read.
