Beetle Boyáby M G Leonard
Described as ôa darkly funny Dahl-esque adventureö, this book mixes science, mystery and humour. When scientist and entomologist Dr Bartholomew Cuttle mysteriously disappears from a locked room, his son Darkus is convinced he has been kidnapped. He sets out to find him accompanied by a giant rhinoceros beetle which seems to have taken on some human characteristics. But to add to the mystery, who are the villainous bickering cousins Gamble and Risk who live next door and could they be involved in the kidnapping?
MG Leonard’s Beetle Boy is a certain 2016 hit! An excellent mix of emotion, adventure and intriguing detail. It is an excellent book that outlines the journey of a boy trying to stop an evil genius. I would differently recommend this book to all readers in search of an adventurous book to read!
I would recommend this book to a child because it’s about how a child finds out there is a beetle with him all the time and they go on the wackiest adventures ever.
3 1/2 stars
Beetle Boy by M.G Leonard is a great book and is definitely worth your time. It is about a young boy who’s father goes missing. He begins to befriend beetles and is quite strange. The book is both mysterious and comedic and a great choice.
I enjoyed Beetle Boy because I like adventure stories and this book hooked me as soon as I saw it on the shelves of the library. Also Beetle Boy is now my favourite book and I can’t wait until Beetle Queen comes out. This book has now made me like beetles because before I hated them.
5 stars
I read Beetle Boy with no idea what the book was about, I’d not even read the blurb. What a fantastic surprise this book was. I’m not sure how to describe it. An adventure? Certainly. A mystery? Defiantly. Funny? Yes. It really is all these and more. When I had finished it I felt I had a secret I needed to share. I have been recommending this book to a huge variety of ages both boys and girls and so far they all agree, its great. Its a story that has left me with a very vivid and colourful memory of an original and highly enjoyable story, and maybe a love of beetles, maybe.
it was a funny gripping book that was interesting through all the twists and turns of the story whilst teaching children bugs aren’t always as they seem.
my rating is 4/5
