This is a funny book, although it also deals with some serious issues such as bullying, family issues and sibling rivalry. Stanley feels that he doesnÆt really fit in û heÆs a bit on the chubby side, the last to be picked for football, and people make jokes about his ginger hair. The final humiliation is when the school bully finds out that he is adopted.
On his 13th birthday he gets a card from his birth mother asking him to meet her. He decides that he canÆt disappoint her by turning up and instead, he advertises for a stand in who will be sporty, clever and good looking to impress her. Needless to say, things donÆt go as planned and he finds himself getting deeper and deeper into trouble as his lies escalate. Throw into this a pushy teacher who enters him for the school talent competition and life begins to get very complicated for poor Stanley!
Stanley Carrot was a very good book. I enjoyed the entire book, but found it quite hard to believe at times, since there are some big coincidences in it, but I won’t give away too much. Personally, I would give the book 8/10 and I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good story.
This is a book about a thirteen year old boy who is adopted. He gets bullied at school because he is ginger. One day he receives a birthday card from his real mum asking to meet up. Slightly unrealistically he gets someone to stand in for him. My favourite Character is Chloe, his cousin, as she is quite quirky and cool.I would recommend this book to children aged 9-11 and I would give it 3/5.
I loved this book because all the characters were unique and different I loved the characters Chloe, Bruno and Nan. I didn’t like Jack because he only wanted to help Stanley for the money. I found it funny that Stanley’s real mum did exactly the same as him and got someone to pretend to be her!
I really liked the book, because there were many twists to the story. I loved how Stanley got a fake version of himself and his mum did too! My favourite character has to be Chloe because she is a lot like me! This book was a great and I would recommend this to anyone!:)
I read it really quickly too Miranda! I identified with Stanley Carrot a lot (even although I’m not ginger or 13). As my 8 year old told me ‘Everyone has something about them that means they get picked on!’
I somewhat identified with the mum – everyone worries that they’re not good enough 😉
