Can their family survive this fearful war?
Against the backdrop of the First World War, Clarry, her brother Peter and their cousin Rupert tackle life’s ups and downs, living for their long summers spent running free at their grandparents’ house in Cornwall. But rumours of a terrible war threaten to change their lives forever.
When Rupert goes off to fight at the front, Clarry feels their skylark summers are finally slipping away from them.

I really enjoyed this book as I enjoy books set in the past, especially set in the war. I like that they are living a normal life but then the war comes.
A lovely book set at around the time of world war 1. A story of loss and Cornwall. It brings us close to understanding Clarry whose mother died when she was 3 days old, how she nearly lost Rupert and lost ‘her gentleman’ as Mrs Morgan would say.

The Skylarks War was an average book (in my own opinion) because , overall it was just not appealing to me gradually becoming boring as I read on. However, the beginning was very good and intriguing.

I loved this book so much! Which was surprising because I normally don’t like war books but this one was different! My favourite part was the end section where: Vanessa and Peter (spoiler…). I love how it made even the saddest parts somehow less sad by putting the good things after it. Overall I could say a thousand more things I love about this book.

Thanks for your fabulous review Sarah, I hope you don’t mind the edit in the middle. I loved that part too but I didn’t want to give anything away.
