Instructions for a Second-hand Heart by Tamsyn Murray
This book has a very deceptive cover in that this is NOT a love story. It is a book told from the two perspectives.
Jonny is facing death, desperately in need of a heart transplant. Then one day he gets the call to say that a heart has been found û but of course, there are two sides to this story. Whilst JonnyÆs life may be saved, another family is facing a terrible loss.
Curiosity drives Jonny to find out more.
This is Tamsyn MurrayÆs second time being nominated for the Bolton Book Awards, the last time was in 2011 for her book æMy So Called Haunting.Æ
I really enjoyed this book. My Dad had open heart surgery so I understand how the family was feeling. But my brother is called Leo so I didnÆt like the idea that the character dies.
Ah, sorry, Phoebe! Gald you liked the book, though.
Amazing book!
I started the book not too sure how good it would be. But by the 2nd chapter I knew I was in for a treat. I found the book very moving because it’s very close to my heart, I have had heart surgery too. I look forward to reading more of your books.

Of the Bolton Children’s Fiction Award books 2018 I found Instructions for a Second-hand Heart the best. I enjoyed the plot, finding it emotional and riveting. I also liked the choice to give it two different perspectives. It was a fantastic, heartwarming book!

This book, in my opinion, is very good and entertaining. It has a kind of magic touch which really makes you want to read on. At some points in the story, it is extremely sad, like when Leo dies, it makes you want to cry. However there are parts which even it up and make you want to smile. I have recommended this to a lot of my friends who are now reading it!
